If you look carefully,
The shadows will fade away
And the phantasms
That force you
To lock your love away
On hidden cloistered shelves -
The ghostly premonitory feelings
That exist only in darkness
And occupy your mind,
Will release their hold,
Their incorporeal selves.
And this is good
Because, if you look
Through their pall,
While suffocating
Under the shroud of fear,
You may (mistakenly!) assume
That the light is too bright
To be real
And even if it is,
Real and alive and whole,
Even if it's bright and strong and near,
You know the brightest flames
Die fastest...
But do they really?
If you think about it?
If that were true,
If that was it,
Do you really think
That this love would exist?
One occurrence
Of tremendous ignition
Set this universe aflame
It set jewels in the sky at night
(In the day-sky too!)
And stars don't die...
Not quickly, nor easily,
Not in a hundred years,
Not in a lifetime
Like yours or mine.
